I Don't Wanna

Things I need to do today:
  1. Grocery Shop.
  2. Pick up Big Guy's fired piece from Petroglyph.
  3. Take Big Guy to his new nice lady.
  4. Go to the health food store to get echinecea so this sore throat doesn't go into full blown sick.
  5. Do laundry.
  6. Figure out something for lunch, unlike the past few days when I've just let it go unfigured and made the kids whatever I could scrounge up.
  7. Wonder if it's good that I can count my ribs without sucking in and wonder how in the hell I still have that tummy thing going on when that's the case.
  8. Think about how to talk to my children about the ethics of staying DOWNstairs until Mommy wakes up so they don't wreak havoc on the upstairs. Make note to self to get mini refrigerator so they don't starve in the meantime.

Things I don't wanna do today:
  1. See above except for #3.
  2. Because of #4.

And would you look at at that Clear Clear 68.6 °F / 20.3 °C.

Moved!

Here I am! Thanks to JD of weblogs.us and WordPress. I'm kind of scared about this new venture, but excited that I might actually be able to post, edit, save drafts, and comment whenever I want on my own site. Wish me luck! Make sure and update your blogmarks to my new url.

It's A Beautiful Day

Still it's only 60.5F degrees out there. Thinking it would be much warmer I put on my short shorts this morning and have consequently been freezing my toosh off all morning. It doesn't help our room only gets the morning sun, and in the afternoon a lot of shade. Even if it's warm outside with the windows open and the breeze coming in it gets downright cold in here. Now that I'm into my jeans and tennies (and hoodie over my tank top) hopefully I'll dethaw long enough to go out and enjoy the day and not sit on this computer for 12 hours like I did yesterday. Yeah, don't ask. Hey you did see me around everywhere didn't you? Darn it I'm still shaking. Oh well, I'm getting off this thing and going to go stick the kids in MIL's hot tub, their new 'swimming pool'.

You've got to do it at least three times, the continual part, not just the poking. Oh go see what I mean. Thanks Stacey for the laugh, and thanks OD for reminding me where I saw this.

Easter & Big Bad Bubba's

Or maybe it was Big Bubba's Bad BBQ. Either way, I rode a mechanical bull this weekend. And let me tell you that was NOT something that was easy to do on a Saturday night with fifty million eyes staring at you and a loud song of some sort of sexual hinting starting to play when you get on the thing. I was actually so nervous my cousin had to spend all night talking me into it, and I finally agreed only when she said, "Can you live in this family and not worry about that?" in response to my being afraid of looking like an idiot. I'm still not sure what it meant, but it was enough to get me up there - at least with her. It was a blast and I was still shaking when I got off. We caught it all on video soon but it's not in my possesion otherwise I might be very tempted to put it up just so I could come back here and laugh when I need to. I even went twice. Now I'm sore two days later.

So, the story. We went up Friday night and stayed halfway in Los Banos on the hardest beds I have ever slept on. I swear I must've woken up six times. Still it was nice stopping halfway and not driving the whole stretch at ten o'clock at night. My brother had dropped off my SIL at the hotel earlier so we took her in the morning and continued on our way.

We got there about ten or so and enjoyed my cousin's bridal shower. She is very modest, according to her her boyfriend and her have not had sex, and she's still a virgin, pretty sure he is too. Which is why she died of embarrasment when one of the first gifts she opened was a gorgeous green with deep pink tropical flowers on it bra and matching thong. She was hiding it under the table as the rest of us were cracking up with laughter. When she did finally pull it out enough to look at it she holds up the thong and says, "How does it work?" which set us all off again. Pretty much the whole thing was like that as it WAS a lingerie shower, except for the strange Auntie Mame outfit from my Great Aunt. It was a long flowy sleeveless orangey robe one might expect to see back in the 50's or so on your great aunt with a long cigarette hanging out of her mouth with her blue hair all wrapped up in curlers. She did try that one on and model it for a picture. It was at the Vintage Press and lunch was delicious. As was the sinfully rich chocolate cake.

Afterwards we headed to my Aunt K's to visit and say good-bye, which we did. Very sadly. Five minutes back on the road, Hubby had a very pouty look on his face. He ended up calling his Mom per my recommendation and she said if his friend who was having the good-bye party couldn't understand why he couldn't make it then he wasn't a friend. And of course the friend did understand, and my MIL is so wonderful she understood as well and figured it would be that way any way. So we stayed and had a blast - the barbeque at my Aunt's that evening, the Bad BBQ, Easter brunch (oh my WORD so yummy), and just getting to visit with my Grandma and Grandpa who drive up from Arizona. And my cousin who's getting married in May. We didn't really grow up together so it's been really fun getting to know each other now that we can (long story) and I wish we were closer in distance so we could hang out more, she is a blast and my kiddos love her. And soon she'll be a Mrs. and I'm sure that will create many stories of it's own as we're headed that way to San Diego in May.

Hope everyone had a very Happy wonderful Easter and the same for this week!

Here We Go

The weekend has officially started. Hubby is off to his Guys Night Out. Yes he decided to go - we worked it into the schedule. Ha. Still not happy about it but we figured out why. Friday and Saturday are go out on the town and flirt with the opposite sex night's - not a place for a married person to be without their significant other. At least now we know why we were uncomfortable and can say next time the occassion arises and it's not on 'another' night. I was slightly pissed about it still when the four of them just got here and didn't come out of the bathroom. But S, our little one's namesake, edged his way inside the room to say hi and I had to go give him a hug. He's such a sweetheart. And I wouldn't have named my second child after anybody else. So I put myself in the spotlight and had to say hi to everyone else which melted the ice around my heart that they were taking my Hubby out on a Friday night. It's funny we haven't had to deal with this because we've been so far away from anybody we really know that we would do these things with for so long. It was better that way, though. We're more mature in the way we communicate with each other now and don't lash out and fight like we used to. We just talk and try to figure what the problem really is.

I'll go pick him up in a little while and we'll head out of town from there. Three or four hour drive depending on if we decided to try and get all the way there tonight. *yawn* Pray for wide awake eyes, alert ones, too, please?

On another note I got my cousin a gorgeous bra set at Macy's for her bridal shower. That's one thing I never got, never had the money too, and now am (most of the time) too practical for, but something I would still LOVE, so I got it for her, *ahem* him, along with a yummy red candle. And I got her this gorgeous hand-beaded purse full of all the colors of red with tropical flowers on it. I figure that's what a bridal showers for any way right? It's all about her and I really wanted to emphasis the her part, and not the them, sometimes when you're just married that part seems to get lost in all the bustle.

Well I'm off to clear pictures off the camera, pack it up, fill the car up with gas, and ship out. Maybe I'll stop by for some chocolate. Or Starbucks. Heck the kids and I should have a date. Why not?

Why Does it Feel Like the Weekend?

Hubby and I have had two dates the past two nights. The first night we went to Crow's Nest and sat by the fire and had caprese (yes I had it and it was delicious) and skirt steak and pear and gorgonzola salad. Yum. We did something afterwards but for the life of me I couldn't tell you what. Last night we went to Kianti's and shared a light dinner and a pazookie. We headed to the 'painting place' afterwards but got there just before closing so we dropped off Big Guy's finished piece to be fired and went walking on the beach. It was nice - since it was in front of the hotel it had a spotlight on it so you could see the ocean and the bright white of the foam crashing on the shore. You can see it on the beach in this picture, looks like the pool water. Quiet and sweet nights.

This weekend would bust with activities if we wanted it to. Friday night, guys night out for hubby's guy friends from high school, Saturday bridal shower for my cousin and goodbye party for Hubby's friend who's headed off to Japan next month, Sunday Easter, of course and desired for us to be 3 hours away with the relatives. To keep our sanity I think we're going to head up to Visalia on Friday for my cousin's bridal shower, come home afterwards on Saturday, make the good-bye party on Saturday night, and have a nice quiet Easter dinner here for our family and any stragglers who have nowhere else to go. I.e. friends who are working, families out of town, etc. Sounds like a perfect weekend to me. Now only if we can pull it off.

Thanks to Girl, hehe.

Thought I would update you all on Big Guy's "nice lady". We did go see the first one and she just did NOT click. With him OR me. First of all she went on and on about Little Guy who the appointment was NOT about. Yes that can be a good thing but not when that's pretty much ALL she talks about. So then after spending hardly any time at all with Big Guy she proceeds to tell me exactly how he is. Great, so now you know him better than the woman who bore him and has raised him the past 5 years? Thanks. Then I mentioned I was concerned about the reading, and she said here we'll do some right here. And then proceeds to try and get a 5 year old boy to sit down on a couch for any lenght of time. Yeah, right. Work with young boys much? Of course she had to eat some of her words right then, only it was her fault because in fact he actually DOES love to learn, just the way that the majority of boys DO with action - not sitting down in a seat. I tried to make that clear when I asked if she had any toys, and she mentioned she had a few but needed to get more. Red flag. Any way the two toys she DID have completely engaged him and she got to see his sparkling personality. Then when she tried to "teach" him to read he got squirmy. Well, yeah. He picked up as they went along but I could just see tears in the future of Mommy please I don't want to go, instead of the abounding joy that he had in anticipation of seeing his nice lady when we were in Austin. So nix that.

Tomorrow we have another appointment with someone else. I spoke to this lady at length and wrote out my questions before talking to her. It sounds like their group is a lot more play-based and don't have any problems at all with parent involvement, in fact they encourage it - which is what I am looking for, and what Big Guy's previous Nice Lady was so very very good at. I am thinking of going with the lady I spoke with, but something encouraging she also said is that they (there's 3 of them) don't get offended if a child doesn't click with one and needs to switch to another. That tells me that they are more concerned about the child's needs than proving their own "teachability", which is also very important.

We have a 'screening' tomorrow at 10:30am, an interview pretty much, although I did the majority of that over the phone. Now we'll just see how he clicks with them. I'm hoping it will go well. Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes, they are much appreciated.

Sunny Side Up

Check it out. Little guy is sitting next to me going 'do that again, do that again'. At three years old he can crack eggs perfectly into a bowl. And at two (maybe even one, I have a picture, I'll have to look at the date) he can peel them to perfection. No wonder he's fascinated.

Mondays

I should've added a sidenote to my previous post. NO PROMISES :) hehe. Seriously, though. NO PROMISES.

Ee-gads! Mondays I feel SO disoriented. Hubby and I went over to Irish Girl's little cottage yesterday and ended up spending the evening there helping her set up her new desk from IKEA (gorgeous corner cabinet). It took the three of us girls 3 or 4 hours and the help of Hubby and his power drill. He was so sweet, he ran home to get it and came back with dinner, printed poster's for our missing remote control plane (that we managed to both buy and lose all in the same day), a toolbox full of the basic tools as a(nother) housewarming gift for Irish Girl, and his entire set of tools. Oh and his computer and a movie so the kids would be entertained. Needless to say we ended up having a TON of stuff in her house and I just KNEW I would forget something, especially when Hubby started rushing me out the door at 9:30pm and I didn't have a chance to clean up and get everything together, although I really tried. Turns out I left my KEYS. My darn freakin' keys. Among a few other things.

As we're trying to coordinate to get together today to pick up the stuff that was left my brain can't even think. I ended up driving up to Scotts Valley to try and meet her if I got ahold of her, which I didn't, but the kids and I had the nicest lunch we've had in a long time, I actually got them the full kids half sandwhich chips and a drink (water) they actually ate their meal - man, I'll have to do that more. Any way, I had talked to her earlier about meeting up later but after getting off the phone realized I really did need my keys earlier than that if possible because I didn't exactly want to leave my house unlocked all afternoon, so I tried to get a hold of her and left two messages. And things still ended up being the same. Ah, such is life.

I took Big Guy around to all the house where we think the plane may have "landed" in the back of their yards or surrounding trees and he had such a blast running up and down to the front doors and putting the posters rolled up between the doorknob and the door. At the last house he told me he was going to get me a flower doorknob for my birthday. I said, did they have one at that house? He said no, but I saw the flowers in their yard, and the door knobs kind of look like flowers any way, and they would be pretty that way. What a creative mind he has. I LOVE the idea.

That's all I got. I'm still disoriented. And my keys, my precious keys.

Shhhh

Hey look at me, I've posted every day this week. Don't expect to see me on the weekends but I just may be back during the week. At least until life gets busy again.

A Story & Commandments

Here are two really great articles that I saw printed up and posted in a local store. I looked them up on the internet and posted them here for you:

This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody: There was an important job to be done. Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry with that, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have.

and also:

Ten Commandments for a Long and Peaceful Life

1) Thou shalt not worry, for worry is the most unproductive of all activities.

2) Thou shalt not be fearful, for most of the things we fear never come to pass.

3) Thou shalt face each problem as it comes. You can handle only one at a time.

4) Thou shalt not cross bridges before you get to them, for no one yet has succeeded in accomplishing this.

5) Thou shalt not take problems to bed with you, for they make very poor bedfellows.

6) Thou shalt not borrow other people's problems. They can take better care of them than you can.

7) Thou shalt be a good listener, for only when you listen do you hear ideas different from your own. It's very hard to learn something when you are talking.

8) Thou shalt not try to relive yesterday for good or ill. It is gone. Concentrate on what is happening in your life today.

9) Thou shalt not become bogged down by frustration, for 50 percent of it is rooted in self-pity and will only interfere with positive actions.

10) Thou shalt count thy blessings, never overlooking the small ones for a lot of small blessings add up to a big one.

PS: I edited the top of this post out and pasted it into my other blog, where I thought it was a little more appropriate to what I usually post over there, i.e. ramblings. Thanks Girl for your support : ) . God I should go by these commandments today, especially #9, that was my favorite. But my head is KILLING me, damn the sinus pressure. Does that mean I get to ignore them? Please? Pretty please?

Want to See Something Weird?

Check out Christo & Jeanne Claude's site and their many art projects, found by way of research through mention on Flickr of The Gates Memory Blog for one of their projects in Central Park. They have completely funded each of their projects with their own sources. Although some of their projects are very strange, it seems they are trying to make a statement, as any artist is. Only theirs is on one very huge scale. To me it seems they are trying to make a statement of community by making them on such a tremendous scale that they can't help but be noticed by the entire community, and by bringing them around the world, noticed by the entire world.

Shavings

Little Guy watches Hubby shave every morning, sitting on the bathroom counter. Tonight he is laying on the bed telling Daddy, "I want that when I grow up." as he's playing with the stubble on Daddy's chin. Daddy says, "You want facial hair when you grow up?" and Little Guy says "No, I want that." and motions again to the afternoon shadow on Daddy's face. Daddy says, "Oh, okay. What is that called?" Little Guy says, "Shavings."

We're Going On a Date Tonight, We're Going On a Date Tonight

and I'm so happy!

No, that's not us. I don't know who it is and I didn't take the picture either, but it's cute!

Added: We had a wonderful evening. Super Babysitter got here after Little Guy fell asleep, he was so cranky, and took over so we could get ready. Ahh, there is nothing nicer than getting ready when someone else is watching your kids. We got fancied up a little and went to Chili's. Yes I know we like that place way too much. Let's just say it reminds us of home - the only decent restaurant back there in that tiny town. Hubby had two Preserita's, he made up that new name for them and thought it was quite funny, as did the waitress. We ran into an old friend of his who we haven't seen since way back when we were dating. She oohed and aahed over the kid's pictures, and mine - wasn't supposed to be in there. It was good to see her. She is close with a close friend of Hubby's, used to be part of the group they hung with, and he always wondered what she'd been up to. We laughed the night away and came home relationshiply refreshed.

Good thing. Hubby's headed off tomorrow for an interview in Austin - looong story. Short version, he's supposed to be training out here to take my Dad's business back to Austin and it's not going to happen. He's still doing the training, but we've got to get our own arses back to Austin job-wise. He's decided he wants to do something else than this particular job, still in the field, just probably not with this company he's going to interview with, but he still wants to go and find out what it's all about. So we'll see what happens.

Anybody who has Blogger comments. I CAN'T POST COMMENTS ON YOUR SITE, so believe me I AM trying - I'm not just flying by. I am SO frustrated with Blogger right now I can understand why OrdinaryDad (who's not on Blogger in the first place but wanting to try something new) and Island Girl are wanting to go elsewhere. I'm okay because I've got Haloscan, but really with Blogger's new commenting system they really should have worked out all the kinks before putting it into place.

Childhood Memories & Happy Anniversaries

All of their answers were great, OrdinaryDad's, Adrianne's, and Nikki's, (still waiting on Girl's) I loved each and every answer - truly giving us a small view into their amazing hearts, you must go read them all. One in particular turned out to be an amazing post in and of itself from my wonderful girlfriend Nikki. It's entrancing. But don't take my word for it - go read it for yourself.

Also a very Happy Anniversary to OrdinaryDad and Soccer Mom - they celebrated their tenth yesterday! Whoohoo! He has written a wonderful post about her, and she has written a wonderful post about him - go on over and wish them a Happy Anniversary - and take a box of tissue : ) ! You think I'm kidding.

Scrap Metal

We took the kids to see Robots tonight. Cute movie, nothing spectacular, nothing horrible. Entertaining, funny at times, with the usual adorable character or two. We had the strangest audience. They laughed at the oddest times. And it wasn't just the one guy sitting in the back guffawing at everything, it was the whole audience. Hubby and I just looked at each other with bewildered looks. Most of the things they laughed at were meant to be funny, but weren't. They still laughed. Loudly.

Little Guy was utterly exhausted but managed to stay awake during the whole movie and pizza (well, gumball and a few pieces of pepporoni) afterwards. He crashed two seconds into the car ride home. Big Guy was also tired but made it through the movie, a game of PacMan and a road racing game, and is now sleeping peacefully in bed, despite the cousins upstairs. Thank God I thought it was the baby cousin waking up and told him not to go up there. He'd have been instantly wide awake.

It was a wonderful family date night. Good time together, yummy pizza, and crawl into bed.

1. How did you meet your husband? I love to tell this story. We met through a mutual friend at his going away to college good-bye party. I brought Big Guy who was about 3 months old and 4 or 5 guys were standing around me talking to me. One of them was crouched down next to the carseat with the sleeping baby, just staring at him. I wondered who this strange guy was that kept staring at my baby. We both ended up going to the same party later that night where he insulted some girl by telling her and everybody standing around how much cuter I was than her and later that night asked for my number. Unfortunently for him he wasn't the best at planning dates so when he called for a date the next day and kept saying he didn't know what we were going to do, he said he'd call me in a few hours around noon but when he finally called at 4pm I'd already made other plans. We ran into each other again through the same mutual friend and I asked him why he never called me back. He said he thought I had brushed him off, and I said no, I just wasn't going to be taken on a date that didn't even have a time set for him to pick me up. That night he got my number again and when he called he said he'd pick me up at 6pm on the day of. And as they say, the rest is history. Although there was another cute story that night, but I'll save that for another post.

2. If you owned your own restaurant, what kind of restaurant would it be? And, would you use your own recipes (as opposed to hiring an outside chef)? Do you know me or what? I LOVE this question. It would be a restaurant with a Mediterranean flair - olives, feta, red onion, balsamic vinegar, red wine vinegar, artichokes and artichoke hearts. Oh, sorry, you didn't ask me to describe the staple ingredients. I wouldn't stick to one cuisine in particular, although that would be my main flair, I would give myself freedom to experiment with different flavours. I would definently use my own recipes. Probably most of them modified from other recipes, but distinctively my own.

3. If you could live anywhere, where would you live? That's what I had wanted to post about - thanks for the reminder. This is a tough question right now because that very idea has been stirred up in our minds. It would be someplace VERY warm in the summers, but not over 95, not too freezing in the winter, though a little snow might be good :) . Away from family but not too far of a drive to go visit for a weekend and still with a completely different mindset than that of California's - one that actually nurtures and supports a family - and has a strong home-schooling support system. You wanted a specific place? I'm not sure it exists. Hawaii possibly? Moved only an hour boat trip away from Cali.

4. If you could hear what someone is thinking for a day, who would you choose? My husband. I would want to know exactly why it is that things roll so very easily off his back and how he comes up with the random but intelligent stuff he does when I ask him what he is thinking. And I would want to know exactly how he comes up with the perfect things he says exactly when I need it.

5. If you had a time machine, where would you go and why? I would go to the days of Laura Ingalls Wilder, the days of pretty dresses and carefree days. No cell phones, no TVs, no constant entertainment except the land and each other. The days where people actually worked during the day and were exhausted by the time nightfall came and would fall instantly asleep. No nearby hospitals, the closest town being 6 miles and a day's trip away, okay with two boys I'm rethinking this whole thought process. Let's just say I'd definitely want to be able to come back right away. In the meantime I'd love to have time to just appreciate the 'smell of the roses', what it takes to live in a time where there isn't the instant entertainment factor and where there wasn't all this junk and processed food available and the food you cooked you grew yourself, or raised.

Ok, now it's your turn, leave me a comment if you'd like your own personalized interview. Update: I won't interview you unless you request so don't be afraid to leave a comment if you're too busy to interview.

I've been interviewed! By the wonderfully delightful SuperMom over at Sands Through the Hourglass, Mel. And when I'm done it's my turn to interview you! I get to interview the first 5 requesters! I just hope I ask as good of questions as Mel and her interviewer did.

Hubby and I went out on a mission last night. A new spring wardrobe for ME! Why is it that the places that had super cute stuff online just weren't so cute in person? Everything for the most part had to be layered with a tank top - either because it was see through or low. Well that or have a bra that was just right and still managed to be comfortable and supportive, something I have no idea where to find. Unless of course it WAS a tank top then it didn't need layering although they sometimes still layered it. I just can't stand the way layers make me feel, even if it's just a thin tank top. I end up feeling very bulky and uncomfortable, not to mention HOT, all day long even though I may in fact look cute and I do really like the layer look on other people. American Eagle? SUPER cute stuff online. In person? See through, super thin, super low. Urban Outfitters? Always cute stuff but I just couldn't pull something together that I'd actually WEAR and feel comfortable in. I finally ended up at O'Neill, a local surf shop.

Found a cute black dress that will work for the evenings and a pretty flyaway skirt and white tank top that'll be purty for my cousin's wedding in May, even though I already found something for then, this works better. I may end up returning the other for the same thing (it's the bottom right, the Roxy Swellville) in the very pretty seaglass green, it'd go with my new white tank top too, another plus as I don't really have a top to go with it right now. I found a picture of the dress but it's doesn't look so cute in there - it doesn't look good on the model and it's a very bad angle for her. It really is TONS cuter and MUCH more elegant looking yet still casual and fun at the same time.

(only in white)

I also tried on these super cute gaucho pants. But you'd have to find the perfect length shirt because a shirt going over them just looks bad. Even if you found a shirt that falls above them, I'm not sure if it would look right. Well I spent most of my gift card there. I've still got $40 left - enough to buy half a bikini. Maybe I'll actually buy the other half.

So we didn't quite accomplish our mission but we had a good time and I spent some of my gift cards from Christmas. I KNOW that long, right? But I have the HARDEST time spending gift cards or certificate's. I don't want to spend it on an impulse buy when down the road I may actually NEED something from that store and not have any money for it. Last night I figured I should use them for something I wouldn't normally ever buy for myself and would truly appreciate receiving as a gift. Oh and I found what I'm going to spend Hubby's gift card gift to me on. The store was closed but I saw it in the window. Pretty white bowls with a raised leaf design. Simple, elegant, and super useful. Also something I would not normally buy for myself.

Big Guy had a speech therapy appointment today. I cancelled it until next week. Said reason because I have something else on the calendar, which is true, although I realized it wasn't exactly what I thought it was. Unspoken reason I am really REALLY nervous and I wanted more time to prepare and peruse my feelings. He had a WONDERFUL speech teacher in Texas, his "nice lady". And she did wonders with him, and was continuing to do so. Then we moved. Yes, the move again.

I thought he would do okay, turns out I was wrong. His grammar leaves a lot to be desired. A lot of people don't even understand the gist of what he's saying. They'll be able to catch words here and there because he does really well at speaking those clearly, but the way he structures the sentence makes you think of someone learning to speak a different language.

Since we will be out here for awhile I've known for the last month or two that I really need to find someone out here, even if it is temporary until we get back to his Nice Lady. I've found someone I think I'll like. She wants to try and teach him through using reading as an enforcement, thus teaching him to read. I'm nervous about that. Partly because I realized Nice Lady was going to be able to do it without that, and partly because I really don't want to force him if he's not ready. We'll try it, if he ends up not being ready, we'll try another method.

Next week, Tuesday at 4pm, wish us luck! And prayers that it goes well! Please?
